I was going through this book on day at work called something like "What
others think of your name." It's like a baby book - but it tells
you what people think when they hear a particular name. This is what
it said for "Erin":
Erin :
Most people picture Erin as a cute [right
on!] , fair skinned [paler than a ghost]
Irish woman who is snobby [hmph], self-centered
troublemaker [now wait a minute!! =) ].
To some, though, Erin is a sweet, plain [I wouldn't
go that far], family oriented woman.
I go by the alias "Lady Lamia" online. I've had that handle from
the first day I was online. I wanted to have a different sort
of name that stood out. At the time I was trying to think of
a name (Spring of 1995), I was reading a bunch of vampire books and thought
I'd pick a name along those lines. Well, I did a little research
and found "Lamia" in an old Encyclopedia of Witchcraft and Demonology.
I liked the name and have been using it ever since. Great story,
huh? ::grin::
Lady Lamia:
A common Latin word describing a witch. In classical legend, Lamia was a
queen of Libya whose beauty charmed Zeus, by whom she bore several children.
Hera, angry at her husband's infidelity, transformed Lamia's beauty into ugliness
and killer her children. In despair, Lamia turned to killing the children of others.
Lamia also had the power ot resume her original loveliness to seduce men and
suck their blood. In the writings of the demonologists, lamia often implies a vampire
or (night-) mare.
